Herbert Elias, MD

Herbert Elias, MD Dr. Elias was born in Cologne Germany in 1940. He attended the classical University, Friedrich-Wilhelm in Cologne, where he studied German and Roman Philology, Psychology and Philosophy. He later graduated with a medical degree from Freiburg and Frankfurt in 1974. Dr. Elias practiced general medicine in Frankfurt from 1974 to 1983.

In 1984, he began treating patients suffering from substance abuse addictions. He later focused his practice on the treatment of opiate addiction, especially poly drug use, but continued to treat those suffering from alcoholism as well. Dr. Elais' preferred treatment method is substitution treatment. In the last two years, he has incorporated hypnotherapy in his efforts to treat addiction.

Dr. Elais was a founding member of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für DrogenÇ und Suchtmedizin", now known as "Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Suchtmedizin".
