The Beth Israel Medical Center operates 18 methadone maintenance treatment clinics that together serve 6,000 heroin addicted patients. Located throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, the clinics deliver an interdisciplinary mix of services to patients. These services include basic medical care, counseling, vocational services, and health education.
The clinics are financed by a blend of state and federal funding and patient fees. Clinics are all licensed by the DEA, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. Additionally, they are accredited by JCAHO.

Beth Israel Medical Center established the first and now largest office-based Medical Maintenance service in the United States. With special Federal and State waivers of the usual regulations governing methadone treatment, medical maintenance allows selected patients to be treated in a private practice setting every four weeks and receive a month's supply of methadone.
