Dr.
Marc Reisinger is a psychiatrist practicing office-based methadone and buprenorphine
treatment in Belgium. He is Vice-President of the European Opiate Addiction
Treatment Association (EUROPAD) and member of the AIDS Prevention Committee
of the Belgian Ministry of Health.
He published the first clinical study of heroin addiction treatment with buprenorphine in 1985. He studied the relationship between methadone treatment availability and the epidemiology of AIDS in Western Europe. He won a legal confrontation with the Belgian medical Association, in order to make methadone treatment available in office-based practice in 1993. He was consultant for the Methadone Program Development Group in Central and Eastern Europe (International Harm Reduction Development Program) from 1996 to 1999. He received the Nyswander-Dole Award in 1997.
